Well, here we are, off on our adventure called 2019!

By the time you read this column, we will be hard at work putting the final touches on what will go down as a successful year in 2018; and, we are well underway with many exciting new initiatives. As we look ahead this year, I am particularly excited about a number of things:

  • We will be unveiling the sites and dates for our first two Regional Member Gatherings very shortly. Nate Lamusga, our Director of Member Engagement, and his colleagues have been surveying a number of you to determine which topics are of greatest interest during these new get-togethers. Our plan is to put together a “can’t miss” Gathering!
  • Our 2019 Gather4Good® events are also being finalized. We’re looking forward to hosting these wonderful community service activities in two new locations later this year. With over 35,000 kits assembled in the past, and therefore 35,000 lives impacted, we continue to make a difference in people’s lives.
  • The 2019 Catholic Schools Raffle is off and running! With 90 schools participating again this year, we are on our way to raising – hopefully – another $1 million for the schools involved. We have raised over $7 million for Catholic schools since we started this great fundraiser which I think makes it one of the largest fundraisers for Catholic education in the upper Midwest.
  • Our first year of selling Catholic United Medicare Supplement insurance was a success by any measure with nearly 500 new policies applied for or issued. Our competitive rates and broad coverages have proven attractive to many, and we expect great growth again this year. If you are nearing Medicare age, please consider giving us a call or send us an email – we’d be happy to give you more information.
  • From a Member Engagement standpoint, our staff is gathering information on which programs seem to be most popular, and we will be looking for ways to make more programs available to more members in more places – stay tuned for more on that soon.
  • There are three positions on our Board of Directors that will up for election in 2019. Because of last year’s changes to our Constitution and Bylaws, we will not have a Delegate Convention this year. That means that this year’s election will be our first election using mail and electronic balloting – we have been busy talking with other fraternal insurers about their experiences with this type of balloting and we are excited to use their experiences to help us give our Delegates the simplest and most effective way to cast their ballots. While all three Board Members up for re-election are eligible for another term, if you have any interest in considering running for our Board, please contact our Senior Vice President, Mike Ahles, or me directly and we can provide you with more information.

It is with great optimism and also a nod of thanks that we bid good-bye to 2018 and turn the page to 2019.

Thank you for joining me on this amazing trip – truly, for every step and every journey, Catholic United is there for life.

Peace.
