Members can nominate someone they know who has gone above and beyond in volunteer service to others. The Volunteer of the Year Award is an honor presented by Catholic United Financial to recognize an individual who, through example and accomplishment, provided outstanding volunteer service to his or her community during the past calendar year.
The purpose of this award is to recognize those who have gone the extra “mile” in volunteer service (meals on wheels, hospital work, visiting shut-ins, etc.). Through their tireless volunteer efforts, those around them have benefited significantly. These are people who rarely say, “No,” and are always willing to lend a hand.
Who is eligible for the award? The volunteer can be a Catholic of any age and must be a resident of Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota, Wisconsin or Iowa. Membership in Catholic United is not required.
We’d like to emphasize volunteers who excel in providing service to others in the past year, or volunteers who have demonstrated leadership or innovation as they serve. For example, nominate volunteers who saw a need and created a program or plan to address it, or a volunteer who took an old program and updated it to be relevant and encouraged cross-generational participation.
Nominators must be members of Catholic United, but nominees do not have to be members.
When members nominate a volunteer for the award, we need you to describe in a compelling way the reasons why they are so outstanding. We’d also like you to supplement your opinions with names of people who can also testify to the volunteer’s selflessness.
We appreciate the people who donate their treasure to service causes and projects, but this award is for people who donate their time specifically to volunteer.
Nominations for this award must be submitted by April 22, 2019.

The winner will receive recognition among the Catholic United Financial community through our media, publications and at events. They will also receive a $500 award and an additional $500 donation will be made to the non-profit charity of their choice.
Submissions will be ranked by the Member Engagement Department using a scoring system and will be narrowed down to five applicants, then the Catholic United Financial Board of Directors will choose the winner at the May board meeting.
Announcement of the winner will be conducted at Regional Member Gatherings, on Catholic United social media accounts, in Catholic United publications such as Our Catholic Journey magazine, in the JoinMe email newsletter, and on the Catholic United website.
